Discover Chu Shong Tin lineage Wing Chun Kung Fu to increase your fitness, confidence, and focus in Hornsey.

Wing Chun is a scientific, practical self-defence system. Everything we do is pressure-tested with realism in mind – no high kicks or flashy techniques. We train for realistic scenarios in a safe environment, and like to test how we can apply Wing Chun principles in any situation, such as when fighting from the ground.

Learn to use your body more effectively by relaxing your muscles and releasing your joints, and increase your strength by using ‘Nim Lik’, which is a type of energy cultivated through the control of a highly focused mind. With this method, you will find that you are able to generate massive amount of power with seemingly little to no effort.

Improve your balance and coordination, while gaining whole-body awareness and developing your focus. Learn to stay relaxed and calm while under pressure, which is essential in a confrontation but also applicable in everyday life.
There are countless Wing Chun schools in London, but we are one of two schools that teach Wing Chun in the Chu Shong Tin lineage. You’ll find our methods of teaching and applying Wing Chun to be very different from most other schools.
You will learn to cultivate a type of power that utilises muscles and your body in a different way: learning to relax the muscles and rely on the skeletal structure in order to deliver massive power.
It’s not mystical or magic; it’s just a different way of using your muscles. The muscles in your legs can withstand up to 7 times your body weight when landing from a height. We learn to rely on this type of resisting muscle force, rather than the muscular contraction you would usually use in the gym.
We break down each individual movement and test it against pressure in multiple possible applications, rather than practising multiple drills and techniques. Because of this, you can learn ways of using your body that can be applied to any form of martial art.
While we’re a small school, we have a large family around the world, in Australia, the UK, Europe, Hong Kong, and more. Training with us will equip you with skills you can use to train at any of our family schools worldwide, and we have multiple opportunities and invitations for training trips throughout the year.
We tailor to what you want to learn as a student, depending on where you are in your martial arts journey. As a guide, here is what you can expect to learn with us in your first 24 months:
Months 6-12: Sil Lim Tao form with light pressure. Pivoting and stepping with light resistance (Chum Kiu principles). Cross punching drills. Defence against arm grabs.
Months 0-6: Sil Lim Tao (Little Idea) form movements without pressure. Stance and basics of movement. Defence against roundhouse punches and straight punches. Chain punching. Heel and hook kicks.
Months 6-12: Sil Lim Tao form with light pressure. Pivoting and stepping with light resistance (Chum Kiu principles). Cross punching drills. Defence against arm grabs.
Months 12-18: Sil Lim Tao form with heavy pressure. Dan chi sau. Light sparring with limited techniques. Chark jong (breaking guard). Kick defence.
Months 18-24: Chi sau. Maintaining Sil Lim Tao with moderate intensity sparring. Defence against multiple attackers. Striking with knees and elbows. Utilising rotation and moving body weight force (Chum Kiu).
At higher levels we study Biu Jee, Baat Jam Do (butterfly knives), and Luk Dim Boom Guan (long pole), as well as ground defence and defence against weapons.
However, this is just a guide and train sessions will vary.

Instructor
Vincent Brown has 18 years of Wing Chun experience, beginning as a full-time student in Adelaide at the International Wing Chun Academy, where he earned his instructor certification and qualifications in sports coaching and fitness.
For the past 9 years in London, he has trained in the Chu Shong Tin lineage, while also exploring Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and working as a paramedic.
He trains regularly with senior instructors in Australia and Europe in order to further improve, and maintains close ties with the Australian Wing Chun Federation.
In this episode, Vinnie from DaiShu Wing Chun sits down with student Jamie to tackle some of the big questions around Kung Fu today. Can Wing Chun hold its own in MMA? Why has Kung Fu’s popularity changed over the years? And how do you choose between different schools and lineages? Along the way, they explore the Chu Shong Tin approach, the cultural side of training, and what makes Kung Fu both challenging and rewarding in a modern context.
Very early on starting Wing Chun kung fu in north london with Vincent, I quickly gained confidence within myself and developed the techniques that focused on real life self defence skills that I feel actually would be able use if was in a situation I could not run from.

Vincent is very patient, makes training fun and takes it at a pace that works for the individual. I highly recommend coming and trying wing chun with Vincent and I believe you see how quickly you develop each week!
